Featherweight Furniture was created by Martha Davis. I am a realtor in Columbus, Ohio, who stages all of the homes I sell. I decided there had to be a way I could make furniture that was easy to move into, and out of, homes I staged.

My first creations were made of cardboard, and were slip-covered to look like furniture. My twin sister, Marcia Falk, is also a realtor who believes in staging all of her listings. She had several listings that brought buyers who wanted to buy the furniture and not the homes!

Marcia was asked to stage a condo in downtown Cincinnati. It was a great loft, but on the fourth floor. To reach it, 3 foot wide, very steep stairs had to be ascended. Getting traditional furniture up those stairs would have been difficult, if not impossible. We worked on the project together using my modular, versatile furniture.

When the loft was completed with a sofa, two love seats, an arm chair, and four dining chairs, the neighbor next door happened by. He was amazed to see all that comfortable furniture in the loft.

The challenge of moving the furniture, from the arm chairs to the sofa was addressed by having each of the pieces of furniture break down into smaller, lightweight parts.

After staging several houses, which meant several moves, we quickly realized that for furniture to function and look perfect move after move it had to be designed so as to take the stress off the arms. Upholstered furniture always wears there first. We decided to design our modular furniture to have the look of sculptured stone with the juxtaposition of thick, soft, luxurious cushions.

The furniture needed to be able to be used and to wear well in uncontrolled environments and store easily in a compact area. Our furniture is made of a weather proof, scratch resistant resin and the cushions are tucked into zippered vinyl bags and stored inside the seats.

We also wanted the quality control that comes with having our furniture made in America. The extra advantage to producing our furniture here is our ability to offer many different variations of colors for the furniture as well as the cushions.

Featherweight Furniture is customizable, so every sports fan, from a college fan to a pro-team fanatic, can bring the fun of decorating in team colors to his or her dorm or family room.
